About

Hello and welcome!

My name is Soraya and I was born in Tehran, Iran. I have a bachelor degree in Graphic design and a Cooking diploma as a Chef de cuisines. I also have a whole bunch of cake decorating and baking certificates. I love any type of crafts, crochet, knitting, drawing, interior designing, painting and much more. I also love history and learning different languages,  but most of all I enjoy reading, learning, and exploring new recipes from other cultures and cuisines.

I have been interested in cooking since I was a little girl and my passion grew when I realized, I could create things my family, relatives and friends would enjoy.

At age 5, I was ready to wash dishes, take out the garbage and sweep the kitchen floors just to show my mother that I’m trustworthy and she can depend on me in the kitchen. I was standing on a step stool, waiting for my mom to pass me the vegetables to peel, chop or shred. Before I know it and at very young age preparing the afternoon tea became my responsibility.

At the age of 10, I was cooking spaghetti Bolognese, rice and stews, different salads and my favorite “scalloped potato”. My summers were spent reading either my mom’s only cook book or borrowing cook books and cooking magazines from my older sister.

I clearly remember that I was about 12 years old and was asking my sister, relatives and my mom’s friends for recipes and recording it all at the back of my school agenda. I started baking when I was 12 and my first creations were date cake, coconut cake, coconut sticks, and mini brioche braids. At that age my goal was to create the perfect sponge cake and decorate it with cream and icing just like the ones in the bakery shops.

At the age of 16 my family moved to Lebanon and this was a whole new chapter for my cooking passion (international cuisines). Now I was exposed to Arabian food and desserts as well as Asian, French, Italian, African and South American food.

My passion for cooking, baking and learning about new trends never stopped; on the contrary it was growing on daily basis while in graduate school, as a wife, a mother, and at work. I was always thinking about new cooking ideas exploring and experimenting with new ingredients and recipes from different cuisines.

In 2014 I decided to write a series of different cook books so I can share my long list of recipes with others. I started with the first book and made it all about Iran’s food and culture and named it “Authentic Iran”. It was published on March 2015.

Then I dedicated my second book to pastries, desserts and sweets from the Arab countries and the book is called “Sweets in the Middle East”, but never got the time to publish this book.

Decision was made, I need my own Blog page where I can share all my recipes as well as interacting more closely with my followers via this page.

On Soraya’s Delight you will find all sorts of dishes, delicious simple and easy to make, as well as very elaborate sophisticated recipes all made from scratch by me and in my kitchen.
